This is my arrangement of Fur Elise for two guitars.
The first guitar part should be played by a slightly less experienced player. Although this part carries the melody it stays roughly in first position.
The second guitar part utilizes some barre chords and shifting. Students will need to be able to move up and down the neck smoothly for this part to work.
Dynamics are key with this piece which ranges from piano to forte.
This is an audio example of the two guitar parts played in unison.
Please contact me if you think your students would benefit from examples of individual parts.
This video describes the technique of pull-offs. This can be used in Fur Elise whenever there is transition from a higher note to a lower note.
The main challenge with teaching pull-offs is that students will often lift up and away from the finger board but this will deaden the note. As you pull-off you need to pull in a motion that is down and away from the fingerboard as demonstrated in the video.
The two forms of vibrato are described here and can be used throughout Fur Elise. As string players we can add life and body to a note by adding a vibrato effect.
When used properly and sparingly, this can add layers to an otherwise dull performance.
Two methods are covered, one for classical guitars and one for steel string/electric guitars.
